Himalchuli Int'l Folklore Festival '08
Date/Venue: 2008 [26 Sep to 4 OCT] Ktm, Nepal.
Introduction
The Nepalese are very much rich in traditional, classical and folk music and dances. Various music and dance events takes place in different parts of Nepal on different occasions and festivals in fact, it is said that in Kathmandi, “every other building is a temple and every other day a festival.” In Kathmandu valley alone there are 2,500 religious monuments. There are more than 50 festivals on the Nepalese calendar, various songs, musical instruments and dances are connected with various religious, social and cultural lives of the Nepalese. Different musical instruments are in practive in the festival feast and ceremonies and also in funeral procession. There are hindu holidays, Buddhist celetions and festivals of the valley’s indigenous Newari people. It is often difficult not know which religious a festival belongs to, since Hinduism, Buddhism and other animistic beliefs blend harmoniously in Nepal. The Nepalese society is so duly intermixed with music and dances that not a single festival feast or ceremony, passes without music and dances.
Goals and objectives :-
In this context, with the experience of last two decades of performing Nepalese folklore in the country and participation in different international folklore festival be organized in the Himalayan kingdom for preservation and promotion of cultural heritage of the country. The festival will aim to achieve the following objectives.
- • To promote goodwill and better relationship with international communities.
- • To provide forum for folklore group of different countries.
- • To show Nepal’s rich folklore tradition to International communities.
- • To link living the truth that folklore tradition has no boundary.
Participation :-
It is expected that the Internatioanl Folklore Festival will be participated by more than 20 countries of Asia, Europe, and Africa.
The organizer expects that the participating team encourage their traditional performance rather than professional or commercial artist in the group.
Cooperation and support :-
Hotels, travel, trekking, transportation, language guides sector for their co-operation and support to make the event a grand success.
Correspondence :-
The correspondence language is English.
Practical Information :-
The international folklore festival will be started on the occasion on WORLD TOURISM DAY on 26 September to 2nd October 2008.
Participating team and it’s members :-
Each country team or group should be participating the event with minimum 20 and maximum 45 participants.
Accommodation :-
At this moment, the organizer is negotiating to obtain and secure rooms in the quality hotels (Preferably three stars)
Study Visit :-
A field trip to the participating members will be organized. Visits will partly focus on Newari Culture and history, but the main objective will be learn more about “best practices” of Floklore and performing art and to exchange views and ideas.
Kathmandu Reception :-
A grand reception will be organized at the city hall of Kathmandu. The Mayor of Kathmandu will be chief guest.
Registration
All participating team or group should send their confirmation of participation by the end of June 30, 2008
Program Schedule :-
A detail program will be provided after the confirmation of the participating member from different countries.
The terms and conditions to participate in the folklore festival are as follows.
- • The group or troop has to be responsible for air tickets to and from.
- • Each member had to pay €100 per person as a registration and participants fee.
- • If non artist want to participate in our festival then has to pay €200 per person.
- • We provide transportation, hotel accommodation, meals refreshments; sight seeing, stage, light and sound, study tour and etc.
- • We provide $5.00 per person per day as pocket money for artist only.
- • The festival will be organized in KATHMANDU-PATAN and BHAKTAPUR CITY...
- • We ask you to send us a profile-color photos-audios cassette, video clips and other promotional materials not later than june 30 2008 to our address by email, post or fax.
